This policy explains what personal data Lagonia collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who we are
This website is operated independently as a personal content project. For any privacy request, data-subject enquiry (access, erasure, objection, etc.) or other data-protection matter, email privacy@lagonia.org. This mailbox is monitored and we respond within one month.
What we collect and why
Newsletter
If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. We use these to send you the updates you asked for.
- Lawful basis: consent.
- How it works: we use double opt-in, so you must confirm your address before we send anything. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Where it is processed: in our own self-hosted listmonk instance running on our server. Emails are delivered through Amazon SES (Amazon Web Services), which acts as our email-delivery processor.
- Retention: we keep your subscription details until you unsubscribe, after which they are removed from the active list.
Analytics
We use GoatCounter, self-hosted by us, to understand aggregate visitor statistics such as which pages are popular. GoatCounter is cookieless, collects no personal data and does no cross-site tracking.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interest (understanding, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it).
Advertising
We show adverts through Google AdSense. Google may set cookies to serve adverts and, with your consent, to personalise them.
- Lawful basis: consent, collected through the cookie-consent banner shown on your first visit.
- You can review Google’s practices in Google’s advertising policies and Google’s Privacy Policy.
- If you reject advertising cookies, we ask Google to serve non-personalised adverts where possible.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We do not collect any additional personal data through these links. The destination site handles your data under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to read.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Netlify. As with any web host, standard server logs (including your IP address and browser user agent) are processed transiently for security, abuse prevention and reliable delivery of the site.
Processors we use
We rely on a small number of third parties who process data on our behalf. Each is bound to handle it only as instructed and in line with the GDPR.

Our newsletter software (listmonk) and our analytics (GoatCounter) are self-hosted on our own infrastructure, so no third party is involved in those.

The site uses the following categories of cookie. Your choices are recorded by the cookie-consent banner, which you can reopen at any time to change them.

Your rights
Under the GDPR (Articles 15 to 22) you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- rectify data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- erase your data (“right to be forgotten”);
- restrict how we process your data;
- portability, receiving your data in a portable format;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests; and
- withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent, without affecting processing carried out before you withdrew it.

If you believe we have handled your data improperly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données), based in Brussels: www.gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be / www.autoriteprotectiondonnees.be.
